| This will be an excellent resource for beginner to intermediate students of liturgy. The book touches on many aspects of the historical development of the liturgy and provides good resources for further study. It is clearly not meant to be an all-encompassing, systematic presentation (it's only 250 pages), but only an introduction to the vast world of information on the richness of the Roman Catholic liturgy. Josef Jungmann's magnificent "The Mass of the Roman Rite" (2 volumes, 1,000 pages total) is a much more detailed analysis, but it was written before the Second Vatican Council and, therefore, lacks important theological developments from that time period which would be important for the student of liturgy. |

| I find nothing wrong with the look of this volume, only its content. If you are looking for a book about the Eucharist and the history of the Mass, better to find "The Mass of the Roman Rite" by Jungmann or even better, Klaus Gamber's "Reform of the Roman Liturgy." This book often fails to consider Catholic theology vis-a-vis liturgical development, particularly as regards the role of the Holy Spirit. |
